Home: Downtown

The downtown is the part of Fredericton between Dundonald & Beaverbrook and the Saint John River, east of the Fredericton Exhibition ("Frex") on Smyth Street. This area contains Fredericton's oldest buildings, including public buildings, commercial and residential, with over 350 years of history.

Schools
This area has no schools, but two elementary schools are just across Dundonald. The Public Library is on Carleton St, and the city's two universities are just south of Beaverbrook, along with the Provincial Archives. The College or Arts & Crafts is in the downtown area.

Shopping
Downtown Fredericton is home to the central business district, nestled between Brunswick and Queen, and his home to both the Boyce Farmers Market and the City Hall Farmers Market. The city's shopping malls are up the Regent Street hill.

Recreation
This neighbourhood is bordered on the north by the waterfront park, The Green, with its recreational pathways, including links to the Trans-Canada Trail. Queens Square park is on the south of the area, and Wilmot Park is to the west. The neighbourhood is home to about 30 museums and historical sites offering boundless educational opportunities. The area also is home to The Playhouse theatre for those seeking the fine arts. For those seeking aquatic pursuits, The Regent Street Wharf is in the middle, and the Small Craft Aquatic Centre is just west of the Westmorland Bridge. To the west is the Fredericton Exhibition, whose property is also home to the Fredericton Coliseum, the Capital Winter Club and the YM-YWCA. In the wintertime, you can skate on historic Officers' Square rink in the centre of downtown. For cross-country skiing, Odell Park has 10km of groomed trails and Wilmot Park has a groomed 1km loop.

Homes
This area includes a number of older, historical homes and structures.
