Home: Oromocto
Oromocto is a town about 15 km east of Fredericton, nestled between the airport and the sprawling Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. It lies on the south bank of a bend in the Saint John River, at the point where the north-flowing Oromocto River flows into it. The town has lots of green space and parkland, though under the eastern runway for Fredericton Airport (which, fortunately for residents, is not a very busy one). The town is connected to the north bank of the Saint John River and Route 105 (old #2) by the Burton Bridge just east of town.
Schools
The community has five elementary schools (including one of the military base) and a high school. The library is centrally located, beside the traffic circle.
Shopping
The town has tow shopping districts, one to the south between Restigouche Rd and the Trans-Canada (#2), and the larger shopping Malls to the north along Onondaga, close to CFB Gagetown.
Recreation
The community is blessed with lots of green space, including Deer park on the west, and a riverside park on Waasis Rd. There is a marina and boat launch at the moth of the Oromocto River on Wharf Rd, offering opportunities to explore the islands in the bend in the river. The town also has the Trans-Canada Trail recreational pathways wind through town, along the riverbank and then west along the south side of the airport lands toward Fredericton. Other recreational facilities include a golf course, a curling club, an outdoor pool, several tennis courts, and a running track. Lindsay Valley has six groomed cross-country trails (featuring easy, moderate, intermediate and free-style trails) and a magnificent sliding hill (422-2000, ext. 3535)
Homes
This town has about 9,000 residents.
